The Beskydy Mountains hide many natural gems, and one of them is the settlement of Megoňky. Megoňky is known primarily for its sandstone balls, which are located just a few dozen meters from the Czech-Slovak border near the settlement of Vyšné Megoňky in the Milošová district of the Čadca district. These spheres were discovered in 1988 during blasting in a local quarry. This is a unique geological phenomenon, where the spheres were probably formed more than forty million years ago on the bottom of an ancient sea. The process by which they were formed is still shrouded in mystery, although it is assumed that it was the wrapping of sediments around the core. The largest sphere had a diameter of up to five meters, but was unfortunately damaged. Now the spheres are of various sizes, from thirty centimeters to more than two meters.
