Wallachian Open Air Museum

The Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm is the oldest open-air museum in Central Europe, presenting traditional Wallachian architecture and the way of life in Wallachia. The Wallachian Open Air Museum was founded in 1925 and is located in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. It is the largest and oldest open-air museum in Central Europe, featuring more than 100 original folk buildings. The museum is divided into three main parts: The Wooden Town, The Wallachian Village and The Mill Valley. Each of these parts offers a different view of life in Wallachia in past centuries, from urban life to traditional rural economy.
Wooden Town
- The oldest part of the museum, opened in 1925
- Shows life in a small Wallachian town in the 19th and 20th centuries
- Contains original and reconstructed buildings, such as the town hall, the church of St. Anne and the townspeople's houses
Wallachian Village
- The largest area of the museum, opened in 1972
- It represents a typical Wallachian village with farmsteads, sheepfolds and a mill
- It includes a living museum with traditional crops and animal husbandry
Mlýnská dolina
- The youngest part of the museum, opened in 1982
- It contains functional technical buildings such as a mill, washhouse, sawmill and hammer mill, which are still in operation
