The Zámecký vrch in Cieszyn, located at an altitude of 298 meters above sea level, is the oldest part of the city of Cieszyn and one of the most important historical sites in Silesia. This strategically located hill has been inhabited since ancient times and over the centuries an important fortified settlement was built here, which in the 10th century became the center of political and military life of the region. In the mid-11th century, the Rotunda of St. Nicholas and St. Wenceslas, one of the most valuable Christian monuments in Poland.
Later, the Castle Hill was the seat of the Piasts of Cieszyn, who built a massive Gothic castle here. Although the castle was damaged during the Thirty Years' War and gradually fell into disrepair, it remained a center of power until the 19th century, when the Habsburgs rebuilt it into a classicist palace with a beautiful romantic park, which visitors can admire today.
