The church was financed by the local Cistercian monastery to celebrate John of Nepomuk, the Czech saint and patron saint. The entire building is permeated with the symbolism of the number five, which is based on the legend of John of Nepomuk. The ground plan of the church is in the shape of a five-pointed star, which refers to the five stars that, according to legend, appeared in the Vltava River after his death. The interior of the church is richly decorated and offers a view of the altars dedicated to the four evangelists.

Reconstruction and new exhibitions

A reconstruction took place between 2018 and 2024, restoring the exterior and interior of the church. Visitors can look forward to the renovated large windows, new flooring and main altar. There is also a new Stations of the Cross exhibition, which is artistically depicted in the renovated ambit.
