Description of the place
The Macocha Abyss is a karst formation that was created by breaking the ceiling of a large underground dome through which the Punkva River flows. The upper part of the abyss has dimensions of 174 x 76 meters and its depth reaches 138.5 meters. On the edge of the abyss there are two observation bridges: the Upper Bridge from 1882 and the Lower Bridge from 1899, from which it is possible to observe the bottom of the abyss. The bottom of the abyss is decorated with two lakes – the Upper and Lower Macocha Lakes, which are connected to the underground river Punkva.
